New Trails are Now Open in Scottsdale: Brown’s Ranch Trailhead and Recently Tom’s Thumb Trailhead
Brown’s Ranch Trailhead opened Monday, June 10, in Scottsdale’s 27,800-acre McDowell Sonoran Preserve.
The roller-coaster terrain and banked corners north of Dynamite Road are premium for mountain biking, trail running or doing a combo trip to Little Granite Mountain
for climbing. If you haven’t been out in the northern section recently, it is noticeably different—peaceful with motorized vehicles gone for good and a lot
of mitigation work completed on the spider trails criss-crossing the area.
Plans call for completion of 70 miles of new trails this year and a total of 140 miles by 2014, all north of Dynamite Road: Scottsdaleaz.gov/preserve
Also, Fraesfield Mountain Trailhead, just north of Dynamite Road, opens fall 2013 and will soon connect the north and south parts of the Preserve,
which is connected to McDowell Regional Park and Tonto National Forest, preserving a vast wildlife corridor.
