Grand Canyon Hike
Sorry everyone I have been busy for the last few weeks. I was spending every waking moment training to hike the Grand Canyon. I am now able to have a life again. I hiked 114 miles in September to train for my Rim-rim-rim hike. I started last Friday, October 2 at 8:15 PM. I hiked nonstop for 17.5 hours. It was a total of 44.5 miles. The temperatures ranged from a a low of 19° at the North Rim at 4:30 AM to a high of 75° ascending the South Rim at 1:30 PM.
For food I carried Chocolate Clif Builder Bars (Which are like crack for me I hike fast and pain free for about an hour after consuming one), Strawberry Clif Bloks, Watermelon Sport Beans, Gu Espresso and Pop Tarts. I also consumed about nine liters of water and 3 liters of Cafe Latte Hammer Perpetuem/water.
Over all I feel fairly good. My left knee was very sore, due to taking too long of strides. But it feels better after only two days. My glutes are also sore and I get an occasional stabbing pain in random areas of my feet. It got to a point where I was no longer able to consume Gu without almost throwing up so I switched to sport beans, which are usually too sweet. I was also so jacked up on energy supplements and music that at some points I could only growl and grunt. The music I was listening to on my iPod consisted of such bands as Slipknot, Disturbed, Tool, Mudvayne, Rammstein, etc.
Would I do it again…
